Beyond disgusted with the emergency ward at this hospital. Checked in with extreme pain was put in a bed and left for an hour and a half before I had to go find someone for medication to relieve the pain, just disgusting
Mother came in to the emergency center due to difficulty breathing and unable to talk and walk. Nurse said she will be seen to withing 5 minutes. Waited 20 minutes she passed out and her hands turned blue , we informed the secretary again and she went to inform the nurses where she disappeared for a few minutes only for us to hear their laughter and idle chatter. Upon returning, we were told she’s fine and we must just wait a few more minutes. Extremely unprofessional and unhelpful.
I could barely walk into the ER. shivvering from pain. Crying my entire “stay”. Medicine not even touching the pain. While I tell the doctor over and over, this pain has landed me in hospital for days. The reason why I could not yet have it resolved but needed to have it done now as I was sinking lower and lower into a suicidal state. She brushed it off and said it would help no one if I just offed myself. My chronic condition was not enough for her to monitor me overnight and have me seen by a specialist in the morning. My chronic pain was not enough for her to do pain management overnight until a professional could investigate further the next morning. As I sat on the bed shivering, and crying, I was given the release form with promises that the pain medication on my script would see me through the night. As I told her in our first discussion, I am on the highest dose of brinttelix, to my “not so surprise” that magic and “extremely potent pain pill”, was tripeline. This could have given me serotonin syndrome, a very serious condition. As I could barely walk, my husband had to basically carry me, shaking and crying. I was given these forms. Luckily I knew better than not to mix these medications. I made a call to the board where my family member is a trustee in this god-forsaken hospital.
Dr Viljoen – “It is a traumatic experience for anybody to go through a medical ailment. Being ill can severely impact a person’s physical and mental health. In such a situation, your doctor should be the beacon of hope. It is the doctor’s responsibility to treat a patient to the best of their ability while ensuring their safety on all grounds.
However, there are certain unfortunate instances where the doctor becomes the reason for the patient’s concern. Some behaviors and actions are impermissible from your healthcare provider. This includes:
A failure in providing proper medical attention and care
Denying a patient the right to choose their preferred form of treatment
Withholding important medical information
Crossing the doctor-patient boundary that leads to disrespect, hostility, or an unsafe environment”
I was immediately admitted the same night at a different Medical Clinic where they have found a serious infection. I will forever be thankful to that Doctor.
Just their admission system sucks. Had to wait 2 hours and 5 minutes to be admitted to the pre-admission ward after doing all the paperwork the day before!
