Webinar:

Topic: Transforming Maternal Health: Mobile Innovations for Emergency Care in Rural Africa

Presenter: Prof Friday Okonofua

Date: August 20, 2024
Time: 03:00 PM (Johannesburg)

Prof. Friday Okonofua presented the successful impact of the Text4Life mobile app in enhancing maternal health outcomes in rural Nigeria by addressing critical transportation challenges. The app facilitated the safe transport of 91% of pregnant women who reported complications, resulting in no maternal deaths among participants during the study period. This success was driven by active community engagement, including collaborations with local taxi drivers and healthcare providers. The initiative’s scalability and replicability underscore its potential for integration into national health strategies, offering a promising model for other low-resource settings.

Webinar:

Topic: Breaking Barriers: Innovating Maternal Health Access in Africa

Presenter: Dr. Peter Waiswa

Date: August 8, 2024

Dr. Peter Waiswa highlighted the critical challenges facing maternal health across Africa, focusing on the strain placed on health systems by rapid population growth, the slow progress in reducing maternal mortality in Sub-Saharan Africa, and the rising number of maternal deaths in urban areas. Dr. Waiswa also discussed opportunities for DIMA Health to address these challenges and fill critical gaps in maternal healthcare.
